What is SEO?

SEO is short for search engine optimization, it is the process of improving the ranking of your website on search engines. In other words, it is a process you can apply to your content or website to help it rank higher in search engines.

SEO works by helping search engines understand what your content is about and match it with people who are searching for products or services like yours. There are two main ways to do this: On-Page SEO and Off-Page SEO.

On-Page SEO

This refers to all the elements on your website that you can control, from the content you publish to the way you structure your URLs. Making sure that your site is well-organized and filled with high-quality content is vital to getting started with on-page SEO.

In technical terms some of the elements search engines are looking for are your website's: title tags, meta description, header tags, images and alt-attributes. Getting all these working together make your site more visible to search engines.

Off-Page SEO

This refers to all the things that happen outside of your website that can impact your ranking on search engine results pages (SERPs). Building backlinks—links from other websites that point back to yours—is one of the most effective off-page SEO tactics. But there are plenty of other things you can do off-site to give your SEO a boost, from claiming local listings to using social media profiles to draw traffic to your content.

Is SEO Important?

Growing your organic traffic can have a big impact on your business, and it's one of the most efficient ways to market your products or services since you're essentially getting in front of people who are already interested in what you have to offer.

One of my favorite reasons to pay attention to SEO is that SEO is an evergreen marketing strategy, which means that it continues working... even when you don't! As long as you keep your content on the internet it can continue to be shown to searchers.

SEO might seem complicated at first, but once you get started with the basics, you'll be well on your way to driving more traffic—and potential customers—to your website.

Kajabi SEO: A Review of the Pros and Cons

Now that we've answered some basic questions about SEO, let's take a more specific look at Kajabi and its capabilities when it comes to SEO.

Pros:

  • Kajabi offers a lot of features right out of the box to make it easy setting up the basics of your SEO, including customizable title tags, meta descriptions, blog hosting, and the ability to make your site mobile-friendly.

  • Kajabi automatically generates an XML sitemap of your site, which helps search engines index your content more efficiently.

Cons:

  • Kajabi doesn't provide built-in tools to assess your on-page SEO, it is up to you make sure you've crossed your i's and dotted your t's.

  • Kajabi doesn't let you edit the robot.txt or organize the hierarchical structure of your site.

To summarize, Kajabi makes it easy to take care of the big settings for your content, the things that make the biggest impact, but there are a couple things that have lower impact that you can't adjust.

How to Add Title Tag, Meta Tag, and Sharing Image to a Page

From Pages area in the Kajabi navigation toolbar click on the three dots beside a page and then choose edit details.

In the edit details area you are able to edit the page title, page description, toggle your page on or off for search indexing, and add a social sharing image.

The page title is the title tag, this is what will show up in the search results page, this will also show up when you share your page in social media.

The page description is the meta tag, this is what will show up in the search results page underneath the page title.

The social share image is what will show up when you share your page in a social network or over most messenger apps.

The toggle to show your page in search results is useful to make sure a page isn't visible to search. You would want to do this if you had a landing page that was used to deliver the content of a lead magnet and you want to keep people from bypassing the paywall or form that collects their name and email by getting to this page directly from a search engine.

How to Optimize the Content a Kajabi Website?

There are a few key points you need to consider when you are trying to design content that is optimized for search. First, the better your content is at delivering exactly what your audience wants, the better it will perform. Writing excellent, engaging content is something that you will get better at over time, so keep at it. Here are some things to consider.

Keywords

Each page should only have one purpose and that purpose should align with the primary keyword you want that page to rank for. A keyword is what is put in the search bar of a search engine, the exact input. So if you want a specific page to come up when someone searches [Is Kajabi Good For SEO], then that is what your primary keyword is. If your page is going to rank, it will rank for variations of that keyword as well so you don't need to worry so much about things like making something plural or if there are small differences. There are whole books written about keywords and keyword research, this is only scratching the surface. Just keep in mind that one page should be focused on one primary keyword.

Page Title and Meta Description

Approach your page title and meta description with the understanding that whatever you use for these will show up in a search page stacked against other pages vying for the same keyword clicks. So what are you going to say that is going to convince your audience to click on your page and not the competition.

H1 Header Tag

Each page should only have one H1 header tag. In Kajabi, the different headers (H1, H2, H3...) are easy to use to change the size of the font on the page. When you do this, keep in mind that if you use more than one H1 tag, search engines are going to think the page is about more than one thing, and that is going to confuse the web crawlers that are trying to understand your content so they can decide where to put it in search.

Mobile Friendly

You need to make sure your website is mobile-friendly. That means that your images show up properly, everything can be read on a small screen, and your page loads quickly. Kajabi lets you have desktop-specific content and mobile-specific content on each page so you easily manage the mobile version of your pages.

Internal linking Structure

Internal linking structure is linking to other pages on your website from within your content. This helps search engines understand what your website is about and will build help build authority for your pages.

Backlinks

You can't have a successful SEO strategy without including backlinks. Backlinks are links from other websites to your content. This is a key consideration by search engines to build your authority for content around keywords. If other people are linking to your content then they must think it is good, and if enough people think your content is good, then search engines are going to notice and start ranking it so more people can see it. Search engines see backlinks as social proof that your content is good.

SEO Tools

There are many tools you can use to help you understand what you can do to improve your SEO. Tools like Ubersuggest, Semrush, Aherfs, and Moz give you incredible insight into not only your Kajabi website, but into your competition as well. These are the tools the pros use to understand keywords, find backlink opportunities, audit and monitor their sites and more. There are also tools that help you create content like Surfer SEO by analzing keywords you want to focus on and then providing guides based on what the competition is doing to rank for those keywords.

I use Ubersuggest. It is a powerful tool created by Neil Patel and is much more affordable than the others I mentioned. I use it to monitor my keyword ranking, backlinks, and domain authority. I also use Neil's blog and YouTube content to learn more about SEO when I have questions. He has so much amazing content, there hasn't been a question I've had that he hasn't had an answer to.

Google Search Console is a must-have for anyone who is going to make SEO part of their strategy. With google console, you can see what pages are indexed on Google and what pages aren't, and why they aren't. You can also request your page to be crawled, which is something you want to do after you've updated the content so that Google will see your updates right away.

Why is SEO important for your business?

Search engine optimization may or may not be important to your business. If you have a blog, then it is something you should consider. If you want to build a website that draws organic traffic through search, then you need to consider it. However, if you primarily use social media, a podcast, or in-person events for your only channels of marketing and list building, then optimizing your website for search is probably not going to be worth the effort. It is still good to know the basics though so when you build your website and other content, you take care of the easy things like good page titles, H1 tags, and meta descriptions. Just because you aren't focusing on SEO doesn't mean you want to shoot yourself in the foot about it.

Conclusion

SEO is the process of designing your content to have a better chance of ranking on search engines. Kajabi makes it easy to manage all of the really important aspects of SEO in their website and landing page editor and for your blog posts if you have a blog.
