Episode Overview

Introduction

Welcome to Kajabi in 5 Minutes. In this episode, I’m talking about the Kajabi Community product and why it’s become a much bigger deal since the recent updates to Kajabi’s plans.

With Kajabi’s latest changes, the Community product and unlimited access groups are now included in all plans, from Kickstarter to Pro. Previously, each access group counted against your product quota, which made communities feel expensive or restrictive to use. That limitation is now gone.

This change reflects Kajabi’s broader evolution toward better supporting what creators actually need. Community engagement has become essential for anyone building an audience, brand, or online business.

What the Kajabi Community Product Is (and Isn’t)

The Community product isn’t automatically created for you. If you don’t set it up, it won’t exist in your account.

To get started, you’ll need to go into Products in the Kajabi menu and choose either All Products or Community. From there, you can create your Community space.

The key thing you’ll need is an access group. Think of an access group as a user group inside your Community. A simple way to begin is to create one access group and treat that as your main community. Anyone in that group will be able to use the Community features you allow.

How Access Groups Work with Offers

From a technical perspective, access groups are tied to offers.

If you’re selling something in Kajabi and want buyers to access your Community, you’ll add the access group to the list of products included in that offer. When someone completes checkout, they’re automatically added to that access group.

Inside the Community, what someone can see or do depends on which access groups they belong to.

Because access groups are now unlimited, you can create multiple levels of access without worrying about product limits.

Using Community for Free and Paid Engagement

One powerful way to use Kajabi Community is as a free entry point for your audience.

Instead of relying on Facebook groups or external platforms, you can bring people directly into your Kajabi ecosystem. This means:

  • You automatically collect email addresses

  • Members get used to your platform

  • They already have a login and profile

This removes mental barriers later when you want to sell something. Your audience already knows how to access your content, which makes purchasing much easier.

On top of a free community tier, you can also create paid tiers. These might include:

  • Weekly coaching or Q&A sessions

  • Exclusive discussions

  • Higher-level engagement or support

Each paid tier simply uses a different access group attached to a paid offer. A member can belong to both a free access group and one or more paid access groups at the same time.

What You Can Do Inside Kajabi Community

The Community product is large and feature-rich, which can feel overwhelming at first.

Inside the Community, you can:

  • Chat and direct message members

  • Create forums and discussion threads

  • Send video messages

  • Host group rooms or one-on-one video spaces

  • Run challenges and assign points

  • Use leaderboards

  • Host meetups with RSVP functionality

  • Embed content like pages, courses, websites, or YouTube playlists

You can also customise names, emojis, and settings, and create user guidelines that members must agree to when they join.

While some users report occasional glitches, many people use the Community product successfully. Kajabi is investing heavily in it, and improvements continue to roll out.

How to Test the Community Experience Properly

If you’re serious about using Kajabi Community, it’s important to experience it from the user’s perspective.

Create an account for yourself as a user and grant that account access to the Community. Make sure you:

  • Use a different email than your Kajabi admin login

  • Log in using a different browser or incognito/private window

This prevents admin cookies from interfering with the customer experience and gives you a clear view of how your community actually feels to members.

Kajabi’s Updated Mobile App Experience

Kajabi has also recently redesigned its mobile app.

Instead of having separate apps for courses and Community, everything is now combined into one app. This creates a smoother experience for your customers, especially if they’ve purchased a course that includes community engagement.

This update is part of Kajabi’s broader Kajabi Evolved release from September and makes the Community product even more compelling.

Final Thoughts

If you’re building a community, the Kajabi Community product is absolutely worth exploring. Create an access group, click around, test the features, and see how it fits into your business.

I’ll see you next week for more Kajabi tips.
